The Loughborough Extended Schools Services project was started in 2005 and was previously known as the Woodbrook Community of Schools.

The project was started as a pilot with funding from Leicestershire County Council by a group of schools which formed a partnership to explore the new Government initiative around Extended Schools and what that would mean for our children and their families.  A Project Manager was appointed to run the project.

The pilot project was successful and all other schools in our area joined the project.  A Project Administrator was recruited to support development.

There were 21 schools in our project and they are listed below:

Ashmount School, Booth Wood Primary, Burleigh Community College, Cobden Primary, De Lisle Catholic Science College, Hathern C of E Primary, Holywell Primary, Limehurst High School, Loughborough C. E. Primary, Mountfields Lodge Primary, Outwoods Edge Primary, Rendell Primary, Robert Bakewell Primary, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary, Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary, Shelthorpe Community School, Stonebow Primary, The Garendon High School, Thorpe Acre Infant School, Thorpe Acre Junior School and Woodbrook Vale High School.

The project covered 4 different areas:

A varied menu of activities - these are the activities that children take part in after school such as football club or gym club.

Childcare - after school clubs, breakfast clubs and holiday childcare.

Community Use - opening up school premises for the use of the wider community where possible.

Parenting Support - providing extra activities and information for parents.
